Play word chain online, as much as you like

The daily chain is one puzzle a day. This is the opposite: press Next chain and a new one is built from more than five thousand compound words and set phrases. No chain is stored in advance, so you will not run out.

Tips for longer streaks

  • Say the top word out loud with a blank after it: “fire ___”. Your brain fills in fireman, fireworks, fireplace faster than it reads.
  • Check the word below as well. FIRE ___ ___ with an S could be fire station or fire sale, but only one of them joins the next word.
  • Common joining words show up a lot: ball, house, light, line, room, side, time, work, way. When stuck, try those.
  • A hint costs less than a wrong guess when you have no idea. Both show one letter, but a hint keeps you calm.

Want the game-show version where you can attack from the bottom too? Try Chain Reaction. Want to play one chain against a friend? Finish any chain and press Challenge a friend.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Is word chain unlimited really unlimited?

Yes. Every chain is put together on the spot from our phrase bank, so you can keep pressing Next chain for as long as you like. There is no daily cap and no paywall.

What changes between easy, medium and hard?

Easy chains have five words built only from very common pairs like BUS STOP and CUP CAKE. Medium has seven words and a few less obvious links. Hard has eight words and can use pairs like BELL HOP or LIME LIGHT.

How does the streak work?

Finish a chain without any word being fully revealed and your streak goes up by one. A red word, or skipping a chain, ends the run. Your best streak is saved in this browser.

Why was my answer accepted when it wasn't the one I expected?

If your word fits the letters shown and makes a real pair with both the word above and the word below, it counts. Chains can have more than one good route.
